Fear, Anxiety and Worry
are negative prayers!
by Garry & Megan H., Indianapolis, IN

"No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper" Isaiah 54:17 I
am writing this testimony to encourage all who read it that fear,
anxiety, and worrying are simply negative prayers. As believers we
all must rid our minds of such thoughts with Christ’s help. In
November of 2003 my wife, Megan and I were almost accidently killed
by our neighbor. We were watching a movie together and eating some
Chinese Food that we had ordered in. While sitting on our couch, we
heard a thundering explosion as the entire main room of our
apartment filled with smoke and dust. When the dust settled, we
noticed a large hole in our dining room wall and a subsequent hole
next to our patio doors. There was a 9mm bullet lodged in that
second hole. To make a long story short, our neighbor was waving his
loaded handgun around in the apartment next to ours while watching
himself in a mirror. His friends were over partying and they all had
had too much to drink. The bullet from his gun passed 4 feet in
front of my wife’s and my face. If either of us had been standing in
our living room or dining room at the time that the bullet came
through, we would have been hit. We were a little shaken up
understandably, but we contacted the Police and let the authorities
deal with the situation. Our neighbor has since been evicted. I
thank God for His protection and His grace. Even through a horrific
situation like that, we both tried hard not to allow our minds to be
filled with fear or anxiety. My point is this. The weapon was formed
against us, but it did not prosper. Megan and I could easily have
allowed that situation to bring us fear or anxiety, but we chose to
praise God instead. Praise Him that no harm came to us. God is in
control of our lives. But God has given us the power to choose and
think for ourselves. So when situations or your circumstances seem
dim, don’’t waste time in fear or with worry. Put your trust in
Jesus and stand on His Word.
